I had the opportunity to view some of the highlights of the MTV 2009 hit series” I’m 16 and pregnant “. They are posted on the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy website..These are powerful real stories of the challenges and heartache that teens and their families endure when a pregnancy occurs..the series( season 1 ) is six episodes, covering a wide range of issues confronting teens..there’s even an adoption story highlighted in one episode where a teen couple (Catelynn & Tyler) lovingly and courageously place their baby for adoption in spite of little support from their families…..the series is out on DVD and comes with a discussion guide book and a teen pregnancy fact sheet.. click below to link to the Campaign’s homepage you’ll also find other useful information and facts regarding teen pregnancy issues.. a great website for parents and teens!!

I watched Season 1 and I fell in love with Catelynn and Tyler. They were my heroes. So much so that I even attempted to send them a letter telling them how wonderful and courageous I think they are. They are so mature and wise beyond their years.
I’ve also watched off and on the 2nd part of 16 & Pregnant in a show called “Teen Mom” which follows the girls after they gave birth. It broke my heart that Catelynn and Tyler have not had as open of an adoption as they had hoped for. It is a shame that some birthparents have to live with not knowing details about their baby like a simple last name. To me this only proves even more the importance of open adoption. By the way, Season 2 of Teen Mom starts on July 20.
Jackie, Thanks for the review of the series and for your comments..I wish more families could be like you and our Kinship Center families who truly believe in the power of an open adoption…
i agree with Jackie – it is sooo important that we hear these very real stories and continue to build compassion and awareness into the lives of everyone touched by adoption.
