Unplanned pregnancy, exploring options? what can you expect from an agency

When an unplanned pregnancy occurs a woman’s life can be turned upside down…reaching out for help can be scary and is not an easy thing to do…women I have worked with told me they wondered what would they find when they made that initial call for help or wrote that initial email contacting an agency for help…would someone respond quickly?…Would they be non judgemental?…Would they find support and answers to their questions? Will the adoption process be clearly explained to you?. .. Would they educate and offer true choices and exploration of all options not just adoption…If an adoption is chosen will they educate and counsel about the life long impact of choosing adoption?…click below and link to an informative video clip I found that discusses what a woman exploring her options should expect and look for in an agency…

Birth Fathers and the adoption option…

With Fathers Day quickly approaching I’m reminded of all the courageous and loving birth fathers I have been privileged to work with through the years here at the Kinship Center… Brave men who have developed and supported an adoption plan for their child…. I’m also painfully reminded of how many men we never came into contact with during the process and the gap this leaves in connections for the child as well as them, and the adoptive family …These men sadly remain “shadowy figures” in the adoption process…so few men come forward to participate in the process and educate the world on their feelings related to their role of being a birth father…An adopted Dad stopped by my office last week… he and his wife adopted a baby with our help 6 years ago …he mentioned they would be celebrating the child’s sixth birthday..He beamed with pride as he told me both his son’s birth mother and birth father would be attending the birthday party…He said “It doesn’t get any better than that!”…. How good and healthy for this child to celebrate and be connected to all those adults who love and care about him and who set this plan into motion… Hats off to this birth father for staying present in the adoption …and to this adoptive dad for recognizing and honoring that connection by inviting the birth father to the birthday party….To all the birth fathers out there I hope you find peace, comfort and well deserved recognition for your loving decision… Stay present in your child’s adoption they need you!

Facing an unplanned pregnancy…

Facing an unplanned pregnancy can cause multiple fears and feelings that can paralyze and cause confusion..sorting through these emotions and developing a plan can seem overwhelming…I’m reminded of this each time I take a call from a woman of any age who calls our agency seeking information to sort through her options… or perhaps it’s a parent calling for her young teen daughter or a boyfriend of a woman and they are facing an unplanned pregnancy together…the emotions are strong and very real…the caller is often vulnerable and needs straight accurate information …information that involves exploration of all options …Kinship Center has helped hundreds of woman and their families look at their options in a non judgemental fashion and with a commitment to supporting what ever choice is right for them… link below to a powerful youtube clip that describes the deep feelings ,confusion and fear that is often present for woman confronting an unplanned pregnancy as they begin to reach out for help and search for answers to their questions…
